Amsterdam Airport Schiphol Reviews
The airport’s name originated from Fort Schiphol from the defence works, Stelling van Amsterdam, which was established in 1852 (AMS commenced operations in 1980). Schiphol was derived from the English “Ship Hole,” which defines ship grave, as a reference to its geographical location (prior to Haarlemmermeer) wherein it once had been a large lake whose violent storms destroyed several ships.
AMS is back in the ball game by being included again on the 5th spot in The World’s Top 5 Airports (now on the fourth spot from last year’s sixth). The airline operator of AMS is Schiphol Group and is led by Jos Nijhuis. The 57-year-old Dutch CEO of Amsterdam Airport Schiphol since 2009 had long been planning the growth of the airport; he said, “If it is very busy at the airport, I always go to see how we manage it. We are constantly remodel; I want to see the impact on passengers. Cup of coffee, sit and observe.” Sales rose by 8.1 percent to 1.47 billion euros, net profit by 19.5 percent to 272 million.
As the main airport in the Netherlands and one of Europe’s main air transport hubs, AMC sure has a lot of facilities to accommodate passengers while at the airport waiting for their flight. So, getting lost is not an option again in Amsterdam Airport Schiphol. Transfer desks in the concourses offer information on transfers and connecting flights. Touch screen kiosks provide general airport information and are located throughout the terminal.
Restrooms are everywhere, and there are a few areas in the terminal where you can enjoy a shower. Medical services are also provided at the airport travel clinic which is located at the departures hall 2, above check-in desk 6.
Schiphol Airport prides itself on its culinary offerings and boasts a broad range of bars, cafés, restaurants, and brasseries, which serve anything from seafood and grilled meat to Dutch pancakes and fast-food. These eateries are situated throughout the terminal, both landside and airside. Amsterdam Airport Schiphol Reviews and News
However, based on some Amsterdam Airport Schiphol reviews, the Dutch international airport harnessed a total 5/10-star rating according to Skytrax; this is average but not good enough. Customers are commenting about the sudden changes to centralize the security checks which delay them and waste most of their time falling in line. But, some reviewers see the improvements as it was done to enhance the services inside the airport. This was like the breakeven of the Amsterdam Airport Schiphol volume of passengers.
In reference to Amsterdam Airport Schiphol’s Mission, their aim is, “To permanently connect the Netherlands to the rest of the world in order to contribute to prosperity and well-being in this country and elsewhere; Connecting to compete and to complete.
